Home beauty recipes and remedies have been around for centuries. Remarkable remedies were discovered purely out of necessity. Over a period of time, many home remedies have proven to be effective and natural, therefore healthy! Making your own beauty products costs a fraction of what you pay for over-the-counter preparations. A large percentage of what we pay for jars of creams, masks, etc., is the pretty packaging, huge advertising campaigns, and sales personnel. Even with the labeling of all the ingredients, we are not all chemists, so we are not always certain of what we are putting on our skin and hair.

This will be a monthly series of fun to make recipes that work. Keep in mind any allergies or sensitivity you may have to some ingredients; such as glycerin, lemons, strawberries, eggs, etc. Check with your doctor or dermatologist if you are not sure you can use certain ingredients. The idea is to have a great time making your own beauty products, and to have complete control as to what goes in them. It is recommended that when you have chosen any of the recipes that work for your skin, use them regularly to achieve results. Masks should be used once a week to once a month, depending on your complexion needs. KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE. If you are not certain of your skin type, ask your doctor or dermatologist. Your skin is a living organ, anything that goes on it should be good enough to eat! So have fun and watch the continuous improvement of your skin and hair with the natural products you have created! Experiment, you might invent a revolutionary new youth cream!

STRAWBERRY CREAM

1/2 OUNCE COCA BUTTER

1/2 OUNCE LANOLIN

2 1/2 OUNCES SWEET ALMOND OIL

3/4 OUNCE STRAWBERRY JUICE

3 DROPS BENZOIN

Benzoin is a resin derived as a gum from trees and used in ointments and medicine (can be obtained from a drugstore/pharmacist). Thoroughly wash and drain several large, fresh strawberries. Mash them and strain the juice through a colander or sieve (if you have a fruit/vegetable juicer, this will be easier). Heat the cocoa butter, lanolin and almond oil in a double boiler (do this slowly, not to a boil). Remove from heat and add strawberry juice very quickly. Beat briskly until fluffy (an egg whisk or electric mixer may be used).

Put into sterilized jars you will find in any drugstore. Keep refrigerated. Apply each night or when needed.
